CONDITION:
Excessive oil consumption or exhaust smoke.
CAUSE:
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) restrictor may be missing or loose in the cylinder head cover.
CORRECTION:
Check all affected vehicles described below in your dealership's inventory or are brought into your dealership with a complaint of excessive oil consumption or smoke from the exhaust.
^ Check for a yellow paint mark at the cylinder head cover PCV hose connection (refer to figures in steps 5 and 6). If yellow paint is present, no further action is necessary. The cause of this complaint is not related to this TSB; refer to the service manual for further diagnosis.
^ When no yellow paint is present, proceed with the 0.1 hr. inspection described in this TSB. If the PCV restrictor is missing or loose, replace the cylinder head cover. See the "Part(s) Information" in this TSB.

PCV Restrictor Inspection
1. This TSB covers only the 2006 MY cylinder head cover. This cover has a molded crankcase vent connection. Please note the PCV nipple location.
2. Slide the PCV hose clamp away from the cylinder head cover.
3. Pull the hose off of the PCV nipple.
4. Check for the restrictor in the PCV nipple.
- If the restrictor cannot be seen, place a 3mm drill bit into the opening. If the drill bit cannot be inserted, do not replace the cylinder head cover. Reinstall the PCV hose and clamp. Continue to step 5.
NOTE:
Excessive oil consumption or smoke is not related to the condition described in this TSB. Further diagnosis is required.
- If the drill bit can be inserted the restrictor is missing. Replace the cylinder head cover using the appropriate service manual procedure; continue to step 5.
- If the restrictor in the PCV nipple is loose, replace the cylinder head cover using the appropriate service manual procedure; continue to step 5.
- If the restrictor is visible and firmly mounted in the cover (visible weld flashing is seen), reinstall the PCV hose and clamp. Continue to step 5. Excessive oil consumption or smoke is not related to the condition described in this TSB. Further diagnosis is required.
5. Slide the hose back onto the nipple. Mark the PCV hose with a yellow paint marker.
6. Reposition the clamp to secure the hose.
NOTE:
Paint mark should be visible if cover has been inspected or replaced.
