Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

INSTRUMENT PANEL

Instrument Panel Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the floor console. Refer to Floor Console Removal.
3. Remove the sun sensor. Refer to Sun Sensor Removal.
4. Remove the tweeter speakers and the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Tweeter Speakers Removal And Stereo Cassette AM/FM Radio Removal.
5. Remove the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly. Refer to Instrument Cluster Dimmer/Headlamp Leveling Switch Removal.
6. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Removal.
7. Remove the automatic temperature controls assembly. Refer to Automatic Temperature Control Assembly Removal.
8. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Removal.
9. Remove the kick panels. Refer to Kick Panel Removal.
10. Remove the glove box. Refer to Glove Box Removal.
11. Remove the screws and the glove box housing.
12. Disconnect the glove box housing electrical connectors.




13. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Driver's Side Knee Bolster Removal.
14. Remove the screws and the instrument panel side covers.




15. Remove the screw and instrument panel fuse block.
16. Remove the nuts and the bolts securing the steering column.
17. Disconnect the steering column electrical connector.




18. Lower the steering column.




19. Remove the instrument panel bolts below the windshield.




20. Remove the fixing screws securing the instrument panel.
21. Remove the nuts securing the sides of the instrument panel to the body.
22. Disconnect the instrument panel electrical connectors.




23. Remove the instrument panel.

Instrument Panel Installation

1. Position the instrument panel in the vehicle.
2. Connect the instrument panel electrical connectors.

CAUTION: Dissimilar metals in direct contact with each other may corrode rapidly. Make sure to use the correct fasteners to prevent premature corrosion.




3. Install the nuts securing the sides of the instrument panel to the body.

Tighten:
Tighten the instrument panel-to-body nuts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft).




4. Install the fixing screws securing the instrument panel.




5. Install the instrument panel bolts below the windshield.
6. Raise the steering column.
7. Connect the steering column electrical connector.




8. Install the nuts and the bolts securing the steering column.

Tighten:
Tighten the steering column nuts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft).
Tighten the steering column bolts to 22 N.m (16 lb-ft).

9. Install the instrument panel fuse block with the screw.




10. Install the instrument panel side covers with the screws.
11. Install the knee bolsters. Refer to Driver's Side Knee Bolster Installation.
12. Connect the glove box housing electrical connectors.
13. Install the screws and the glove box housing.
14. Install the glove box. Refer to Glove Box Installation.
15. Install the kick panels. Refer to Kick Panel Installation.
16. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Installation.
17. Install the automatic temperature controls assembly. Refer to Automatic Temperature Control Assembly Installation.
18. Install the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Installation.
19. Install the instrument cluster dimmer switch assembly. Refer to Instrument Cluster Dimmer/Headlamp Leveling Switch Installation
20. Install the tweeter speakers and the stereo cassette AM/FM radio. Refer to Stereo Cassette AM/FM Radio Installation.
21. Install the sun sensor and the automatic temperature controls assembly. Refer to Sun Sensor Installation.
22. Install the floor console. Refer to Floor Console Installation.




23. Connect the negative battery cable.
