DTC P0650: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control CircuitWiring Diagram:
Circuit Description
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel cluster. The MIL informs the driver that an emission system fault has occurred and that the engine control system requires service. The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the MIL control circuit for conditions that are incorrect for the commanded state of the MIL. For example, a failure condition exists if the ECM detects low voltage when the MIL is commanded OFF, or high voltage when the MIL is commanded ON. If the ECM detects an improper circuit condition on the MIL control circuit, this DTC sets.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
- Engine is running.
- Ignition voltage is between 11 and 16 V.
- The ECM detects an open, short to ground or short to battery in the MIL control circuit.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
- The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
- The ECM will record operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. This information will be stored in the Freeze Frame and Failure Records buffers.
- A history DTC is stored.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC
- A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm up cycles without a fault.
- The DTC(s) can be cleared by using the scan tool.
- Disconnecting the ECM battery feed for more than 10 seconds.
