A/T - Won't Shift Correctly After Replacement

FORENZA

Section Title: Transmission
TSB No. TS 06 01238

Division: Automotive
Category: Technical

SUBJECT:
REQUIRED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

MODEL(S):
FORENZA SEDAN/WAGON, RENO (RQ420)

YEAR:
2004~2008

CONDITION:
Automatic transmission will not shift properly after Transmission Control Module (TCM) or assembly replacement.

CAUSE:
Tech 2 "AT learned initialize" procedure was not performed after A/T assembly replacement or TCM replacement. The transmission module automatically compensates or "learns" and maps transmission wear condition and engine torque output, to provide the best possible shift under any condition. If not reset, the module will shift with the previous shift mapping that may not work properly with the new component.

CORRECTION:

Use the Tech 2 to perform the "AT learned initialize" procedure after transmission component replacement, including the transmission assembly and/or the transmission control module replacement, or reprogramming. It is recommended to test drive the vehicle after initialization sufficiently to get the transmission to shift up through 4th lock-up. Decelerate gradually to a full stop at least one time. The AT learned initialize procedure is found in the Tech 2; follow this path to access the AT learned initialize function: SUZUKI -> North America -> (J) FORENZA/RENO -> Power Train -> Transmission -> Misc. Test -> AT learned initialize. See above.
