SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN: SK, THE HEAD PORTION OF THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS BECOMING LOOSE.

IN ALL CASES PLEASE CHECK VEHICLE HISTORY ON WEBSITE TO CONFIRM THAT VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN RECALL CAMPAIGN AND THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED

CONDITION:
The head portion of the outside mirror(s) may work loose while driving or when opening and closing the front door(s).

CAUSE:
Due to the absence of a pre-coated adhesive, known as thread lock on the three (3) mounting screws on the outside rear view mirror base, the screws may loosen and cause vibration of the mirror itself resulting in decreased visibility performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

CORRECTION:
DO NOT replace the Mirror assembly! Please remove the three screws that attach the head portion of each mirror, and replace them with the countermeasure parts.

Acceptable Torque Tools:

(Snap-on Tools and stock numbers shown, equivalent tools from other manufacturers can also be used)

Repair Instructions





1. Remove the garnish (1)

2. Locate and remove two screws, located at the inner door handle and door pull (2)





3. Release the nine retainer clips securing the door trim panel using the trim tool.

4. Pull gently outward on the panel until the clips are clear of their holes, then lift to free the panel from the upper door frame.

5. Unplug the connectors at the power window switch, outside door mirror, and tweeter (if equipped), then remove the panel and set aside in a clean, safe place out of the way





6. Remove the outside door mirror by loosening the three 10 mm nuts on the inside of the door assembly, taking care to hold the mirror assembly securely before completely removing the nuts.





7. Insert a small flat-bladed screw driver or the like into the notch for unlocking the 2 claws of mirror cover body, gently push in the direction indicated by the yellow arrow and pry outward to remove the mirror cover.





8. Using the #2 phillips screwdriver, one at a time, remove and replace the three (3) screws that secure the head portion to the mounting arm, with new screws pre- coated with adhesive (thread lock), making sure that the screws are tight.

Prescribed tightening torque: 3.4 to 3.9 Nm 30 to 35 lbf-in

9. Reinstall the mirror base cover by first inserting the outer end, making sure to engage the tab inside the housing.

10. Once the outer end is properly in place, press upward on the inner side nearest the door, to snap in the retaining tabs.





11. Install the outside door mirror assembly to the door reusing the original nuts that were removed, and tighten them to specified torque in the order of (1), (2) and (3) indicated in the figure

Prescribed tightening torque: 4 to 7 Nm 35 to 62 lbf-in

12. Install the inner door trim panel and mirror garnish in the reverse order of the removal process, making sure to reconnect the power window switch, outside door mirror, and tweeter (if equipped)

13. Repeat steps 1 through 12 on the other front door to replace the outside mirror screws.

14. Make sure the mirror base covers are installed securely, there is no looseness of the outside door mirror housings, and no damage to the outside appearance.

If the mirror base covers were damaged and do not attach properly, replacement part numbers are:

LH: 84729-80J10-RX0





15. Apply the proper campaign label to the upper radiator support in an area where it will be easily seen and identified, and record your Dealer Code in the white portion of the label.
