DTC B1042: Passenger Air Bag (1st Stage) Circuit Low Resistance

DTC Troubleshooting



1.
Was "Air Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow" performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Go to Air Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow:Advanced Air Bag.

2. Passenger air bag 1st stage circuit check

Remove passenger air bag (inflator) module referring to Removal and Installation Passenger Air Bag (Inflator) Module Removal and Installation:Advanced Air Bag.
Check for proper connection to passenger air bag (inflator) module at terminals in "G259" connector (orange connector).
If OK, then connect special tools (A), (B) and (C) to "G259" connector (orange connector).
Special Tool

(A): 09932-76010

(B): 09932-75010

(C): 09932-78310





Check SDM for DTC.

NOTE:
At this time, DTC B1045 may be output, but it is not related to this check.

With ignition switch ON, is DTC B1042 indicated?
YES
Go to Step 3.
NO
Replace passenger air bag (inflator) module referring to Passenger Air Bag (Inflator) Module Removal and Installation:Advanced Air Bag.

3. Passenger air bag 1st stage circuit check

With ignition switch turned OFF, disconnect SDM connector "L04".
Check for proper connection to SDM connector at terminal "L04-5" and "L04-6".
If OK, release shorting bar in SDM connector inserting release tool (1) included in special tool (A).
Special Tool

(A): 09932-76010

Measure resistance between "L04-5" and "L04-6" terminals.






Is measured resistance infinity?
YES
Substitute a known-good SDM and recheck.
NO
Go to Step 4.

4. Floor harness circuit check

Disconnect "L403" connector located near the passenger side front pillar lower trim.
Check for proper connection to floor harness connector at terminal "L403-3" and "L403-4".
If OK, release shorting bar in SDM connector inserting release tool (1) included in special tool (A).
Special Tool

(A): 09932-76010

Measure resistance between "L403-3" and "L403-4" terminals.






Is measured resistance infinity?
YES
Repair "PPL/YEL" circuit for short to "LT GRN/RED" circuit at instrument panel harness.
NO
Repair "PPL/YEL" circuit for short to "LT GRN/RED" circuit at floor harness.

NOTE:

Upon completion of inspection and repair work, perform the following items.

- Reconnect all air bag system components and ensure all components are properly mounted.
- Clear DTCs referring to DTC Clearance DTC Clearance:Advanced Air Bag
, if any.
- Repeat Air Bag Diagnostic System Check Air Bag Diagnostic System Check:Advanced Air Bag
to confirm that the trouble has been corrected.
