EPS System Check




EPS System Check

WARNING:

If you do not select a suitable route and take proper precautions when performing a road test, an accident can occur.

- Select a level road with no traffic to minimize the risk of accident.
- Perform the test extremely carefully.
- Perform the road test using 2 persons, a driver and an assistant.

Refer to the following items for the details of each step.

Customer complaint analysis


Perform customer complaint analysis referring to "Customer Complaint Analysis".

Was customer complaint analysis performed?
YES
Go to Step 2.
NO
Perform customer complaint analysis.

2.
DTC check, record and clearance


Check for DTC (including pending DTC) referring to Step 2: DTC Check, Record and Clearance.

Is there any DTC(s)?
YES
Print DTC or write them down and clear them by referring to DTC Clearance:Electric Type
, and go to Step 3.
NO
Go to Step 4.

3.
Visual inspection


Perform visual inspection referring to Visual Inspection Visual Inspection:Electric Type.

Is there any faulty condition?
YES
Repair or replace malfunction part, and go to Step 11.
NO
Go to Step 5.

Visual inspection


Perform visual inspection referring to Visual Inspection Visual Inspection:Electric Type.

Steering symptom diagnosis and P/S system symptom diagnosis


Check and repair according to Steering Symptom Diagnosis Steering Symptom Diagnosis
and P/S System Symptom Diagnosis P/S System Symptom Diagnosis:Electric Type.

Are check and repair complete?
YES
Go to Step 11.
NO
Check and repair malfunction part(s), and go to Step 11.

Troubleshooting for DTC


Check and repair according to applicable DTC troubleshooting.

Intermittent problems check


Check for intermittent problems referring to Step 10: Intermittent Problems Check.

Is there any faulty condition?
YES
Repair or replace malfunction part(s), and go to Step 11.
NO

Final confirmation test


Clear DTC if any.
Perform final confirmation test referring to Step 11: Final Confirmation Test.

Is there any problem symptom, DTC or abnormal condition?
YES
Go to Step 6.
NO

NOTE:

- As execution of DTC Clearance DTC Clearance:Electric Type
will clear all DTCs, be sure to record all DTCs before service.

- DTC C1122 is indicated when ignition switch is at ON position and engine is not running, it means that nothing is abnormal.
- Current DTC and history DTC can be identified by condition of the "EPS" warning light.
"EPS" warning light operates as follows.



Step 1: Customer Complaint Analysis

Record details of the problem (failure, complaint) and how it occurred as described by the customer. For this purpose, use of such an inspection form will facilitate collecting information to the point required for proper analysis and diagnosis. Check if the problem described in "Customer questionnaire" actually occurs in the vehicle if necessary. (This step should be performed with the customer if possible)

Step 2: DTC Check, Record and Clearance

First, referring to DTC Check DTC Check:Electric Type
, check DTC (including pending DTC). If DTC exists, print or write down DTC and then clear them by referring to DTC Clearance DTC Clearance:Electric Type.

DTC indicates malfunction in the system but it is not possible to know from it whether the malfunction is occurring now or it occurred in the past and normal condition has been restored. In order to know that, check symptom in question according to Step 5 and then recheck DTC according to Step 6 and 7.

Diagnosing a trouble based on the DTC in this step only or failure to clear the DTC in this step may result in an faulty diagnosis, trouble diagnosis of a normal circuit or difficulty in troubleshooting which is otherwise unnecessary.

Step 3 and Step 4: Visual Inspection

As a preliminary step, be sure to perform visual check of the items that support proper function of the P/S system referring to Visual Inspection Visual Inspection:Electric Type.

Step 5: Trouble Symptom Confirmation

Based on information obtained in "Step 1: Customer Complaint Analysis:" and "Step 2: DTC Check, Record and Clearance:", confirm trouble symptoms. Also, reconfirm trouble symptom by performing test drive and turning steering wheel fully to right and left at stopped vehicle.

Step 6 and 7: Rechecking and Record of DTC

Refer to DTC Check DTC Check:Electric Type
for checking procedure.

Step 8: Steering Symptom Diagnosis and P/S System Symptom Diagnosis

Perform basic steering system check according to Steering Symptom Diagnosis Steering Symptom Diagnosis
first. When the end of the flow has been reached, check the parts of the system suspected as a possible cause referring to P/S System Symptom Diagnosis P/S System Symptom Diagnosis:Electric Type
and based on symptoms appearing on the vehicle (symptoms obtained through steps of customer complaint analysis, trouble symptom confirmation and/or basic engine check) and repair or replace faulty parts, if any.

Step 9: Troubleshooting for DTC (See each DTC Troubleshooting)

Based on the DTC indicated in Step 6 or 7 and referring to the applicable DTC troubleshooting, locate the cause of the trouble, namely in a sensor, switch, wire harness, connector, actuator, P/S control module or other part and repair or replace faulty parts.

Step 10: Intermittent Problems Check

Check parts where an intermittent trouble is easy to occur (e.g., wire harness, connector, etc.), referring to Intermittent and Poor Connection Inspection Intermittent and Poor Connection Inspection
and related circuit of DTC recorded in Step 2.

Step 11: Final Confirmation Test

Confirm that the problem symptom has gone and the P/S system is free from any abnormal conditions. If what has been repaired is related to the DTC, clear the DTC once, perform DTC confirmation procedure and confirm that no DTC is indicated.
