Precautions in Servicing 4WD Model

WARNING:

Failure to take proper precautions when servicing a 4WD model can cause a vehicle accident, severe personal injury, or drivetrain damage.

- Never perform service work with the vehicle in any of the conditions [A], [B] or [C] shown below. If the 4WD-auto or 4WD-lock mode is selected, the vehicle will move since the front wheels drive the rear wheels or the rear wheels drive the front wheels. If the 2WD mode is selected, the coupling in the drive-train will be damaged since there will be a difference in speed between the front and rear wheels.

- When testing the vehicle using a 2-wheel chassis dynamometer or speedometer tester, be sure to place the 4WD system in the 4WD-auto or 4WD-lock mode and place the front wheels on the dynamometer or speedometer tester and the rear wheels on a 2-wheel free roller. Alternatively, remove the propeller shaft to make only the front wheels work as drive wheels.
- When testing the vehicle using a 2-wheel brake tester, be sure to take the following precautions:

- Shift the transaxle to the N (Neutral) position.
- Place the 4WD system in the 2WD mode.
- Run the engine at a speed in the specified idle speed range.
- Drive the vehicle wheels with the brake tester at a vehicle speed below 5 km/h (3 mile/h).
- Do not drive the vehicle wheels with the brake tester for more than 1 minute.

- When using on-vehicle type wheel balancing equipment (1), observe the following precautions:

- Be sure to place the 4WD system in the 4WD-auto or 4WD-lock mode and raise and support the vehicle with safety stands (2) so that all four wheels are completely off the ground.
- Be careful not to be injured by the other wheels that rotate simultaneously with the wheel being balanced.
- Never select the 2WD mode, as this will damage the coupling in the drivetrain.

- Only tow the vehicle with all four wheels on a flatbed truck or with all four wheels on the ground.
