DTC Confirmation Procedure

WARNING:

If you do not select a suitable route and take proper precautions when performing a road test, an accident can occur.

- Select a level road with no traffic to minimize the risk of accident.
- Perform the test extremely carefully.
- Perform the road test using 2 persons, a driver and an assistant.

NOTE:

- If DTCs other than aimed DTC are previously detected in DTC confirmation procedure, be sure to troubleshoot DTC previously detected.
- Check that the following conditions are satisfied when using this procedure.

- ECT > 65 °C (149 °F)

1) Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
2) Drive vehicle at 60 km/h (38 mile/h) or higher for 4 min.

DTC Troubleshooting

1.
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?
YES -
Go to Step 2.
NO -
Go to Engine and Emission Control System Check Engine and Emission Control System Check.

2. DTC check

Check DTC.

Is there DTC(s) other than P2096 and P2097?
YES -
Go to applicable DTC(s).
NO -
Go to Step 3.

3. HO2S signal check

Turn OFF ignition switch and connect scan tool.
Warm up engine to normal operating temperature and keep it at 2,000 rpm. for 60 sec.
Repeat racing engine (Depress and release accelerator pedal 5 to 6 times repeatedly to enrich and lean A/F mixture).
Check for HO2S output voltage displayed on scan tool.

Does HO2S output voltage indicates approx. 0 V for a few seconds, then approx. 0.7 V?
YES -
Intermittent trouble.
Check for intermittent. Intermittent and Poor Connection Inspection
NO -
Go to Step 4.

4. Intake system and exhaust system for leakage check

Check intake system and exhaust system for leakage.

Are intake system and exhaust system in good condition?
YES -
Go to Step 5.
NO -
Repair or replace defective parts.

5. Fuel injectors and its circuit check

Check each fuel injectors and its circuit. Fuel System Inspection

Is check result satisfactory?
YES -
Go to Step 6.
NO -
Repair or replace defective fuel injector or wire harness

6. HO2S signal circuit and ground circuit check

Check HO2S signal circuit and ground circuit according to Step 3 under P0137 DTC P0137 / P0138.

Are they in good condition?
YES -
Go to Step 7.
NO -
Repair or replace defective wire harness.

7. HO2S heater circuit check

Check HO2S heater circuit according to Step 2 through 3 under P0037 DTC P0037 / P0038 / P0054.

Are they in good condition?
YES -
Go to Step 8.
NO -
Repair or replace defective wire harness.

8. HO2S heater check

Check heater resistance of HO2S. Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Heater On-Vehicle Inspection

Is HO2S heater in good condition?
YES -
Go to Step 9.
NO -
Replace HO2S.

9. A/F sensor signal circuit check

Check A/F sensor signal circuit according to Step 3 under P0131 DTC P0131 / P0132 / P0134 / P2237.

Are they in good condition?
YES -
Go to Step 10.
NO -
Repair or replace defective wire harness.

10. A/F sensor heater circuit check

Check A/F sensor heater circuit according to Step 2 through 3 under P0031 DTC P0031 / P0032.

Are they in good condition?
YES -
Go to Step 11.
NO -
Repair or replace defective wire harness.

11. A/F sensor check

Check for A/F sensor. Air Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor On-Vehicle Inspection

Is check result satisfactory?
YES -
Go to Step 12.
NO -
Replace A/F sensor.

12. Engine mechanical systems check

Check engine mechanical systems.
- Engine compression: Testing and Inspection
- Valve clearance: Service and Repair
- Intake and exhaust valve: Valve and Valve Guide Inspection
- Valve timing: Camshaft and Tappet Removal and Installation

Are check result satisfactory?
YES -
Go to Step 13.
NO -
Repair or replace defective parts.

13. Replace HO2S. Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Removal and Installation
Check DTC.

Is DTC P2096 and P2097 still detected?
YES -
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
NO -
End.
