Removal and Installation




Rear Side-Impact Sensor Removal and Installation

WARNING:

Failure to take proper precautions when handling the air bag system sensors can result in personal injury due to non-deployed air bag system in the event of an accident or accidental air bag deployment.

- Never impact or shake the sensors. Otherwise, proper operation of the sensors cannot be assured.
- Always tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque when installing the sensors. Otherwise, proper operation of the sensors cannot be assured.

Removal

1) Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2) Disable air bag system. Refer to Disabling Air Bag System Disabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag.
3) Remove rear seat.
4) Remove rear quarter lower front trim and rear trim.
5) Disconnect rear side-impact sensor connector (1) sliding connector outer (2) as shown.
6) Remove rear side-impact sensor bolts (3), and rear side-impact sensor (4) from quarter inner panel (5).






Installation

Rear Side-Impact Sensor Inspection:Advanced Air Bag
1) Check that none of following faulty conditions exists.
- Bend, deformity or rust of under body.
- Foreign matter on mating surface of sensor.
2) Install rear side-impact sensor (1) to quarter inner panel (2) and tighten rear side-impact sensor bolt (3) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Rear side-impact sensor bolt (a): 9 Nm (0.9 kgf-m, 6.5 lbf-ft)

3) Connect rear side-impact sensor connector (4) by pushing connector till click is heard from it.





4) Install rear quarter lower front trim and rear trim.
5) Install rear seat.
6) Enable air bag system. Refer to Enabling Air Bag System Enabling Air Bag System:Advanced Air Bag.
7) Connect negative (-) cable at battery.
