W/22R Engine

1. Remove hood, battery and air cleaner.
2. Drain cooling system, then remove radiator, shroud and radiator hoses.
3. On vehicles equipped with air conditioning, remove drive belt and compressor mounting bolts, then position compressor aside with lines attached.
4. Remove fan, pulley and drive belt.
5. Disconnect heater inlet hose from water valve, brake booster hose from intake manifold, fuel lines from fuel pump and emission canister hoses.
6. Disconnect alternator electrical connectors and all engine ground straps.
7. Disconnect ignition coil wiring and remove high tension lead from distributor.
8. Disconnect electrical connectors from fuel cut solenoid valve and water temperature sender.
9. Disconnect accelerator linkage from carburetor and electrical connectors from thermo switch and vacuum switch. Remove bolts from vacuum switch bracket and position assembly aside. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
10. Remove transmission shift lever from inside vehicle, then raise and support vehicle.
11. Drain engine oil and remove driveshaft.
12. Disconnect electrical connectors from oil pressure switch, sending unit and back-up light switch.
13. Disconnect speedometer cable from transmission.
14. Disconnect exhaust pipe clamp from transmission housing.
15. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold, then disconnect starter electrical connectors.
16. Remove starter mount bolt and clutch release cylinder.
17. Support transmission using suitable jack with block of wood placed between jack lifting pad and transmission oil pan.
18. Remove motor mount bolts from both sides of engine, then remove rear mount bolts.
19. Attach suitable lifting device to engine lift brackets and remove engine and transmission as an assembly from vehicle. Ensure all remaining electrical connectors are disconnected.
20. To separate engine from transmission, remove starter and engine to transmission attaching bolts.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
