W/G40 & G52 Transmissions
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove shift lever from inside vehicle.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission fluid.
4. Disconnect propeller shaft, then the speedometer cable, back-up lamp switch and light switch connector.
5. Remove exhaust pipe clamp from bracket, then the exhaust pipe from manifold. Remove exhaust pipe clamp from No. 2 crossmember frame.
6. Remove clutch release cylinder and tube bracket. Do not remove clutch line.
7. Remove four rear engine mount attaching bolts, then slightly raise transmission, using a suitable jack. Remove four attaching bolts from support member, then remove rear mount bracket. Remove engine rear mount from transmission.
8. Place a piece of wood, approximately .8 inch (20 mm) thick, between engine oil pan and front crossmember, then lower transmission.
9. Remove starter, then the exhaust pipe bracket and stiffener plate bolts.
10. Remove remaining transmission attaching bolts.
11. Pull transmission assembly toward rear of vehicle, then lower transmission forward and away from vehicle, using care not to damage extension housing dust deflector.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
