Conventional Distributor

NOTE: The 7M-GTE engine does not use a distributor. In its place a cam position sensor is used. For service procedures, refer to CAM POSITION SENSOR SERVICE.

1. Remove distributor cap and rotor, Fig. 22.
2. Remove dust cover, gasket and shaft packing, as equipped.
3. Remove pick-up coil (signal generator) retaining screws and the pick-up coil.
4. Remove vacuum advance capsule retaining screws, clip retaining actuator and the capsule.
5. Remove retaining screws, bale clips and breaker plate.
6. Support distributor drive gear, drive out retaining pin using suitable punch, then remove drive gear and shims, noting position for reassembly.
7. Remove screw from top of distributor shaft, reluctor, governor springs and centrifugal advance weights.
8. Remove screws from shaft bearing retainer plate and the distributor shaft.
9. Reverse procedure to assemble, and ensure that pick-up coil air gap is 0.008-0.016 inch using non-magnetic feeler gauge.
