IV. Igniter Replacement Procedure and Completion Label
Removal of Igniter:
Removal of Igniter
1. Remove rotor, ignition coil cover and igniter cover.
2. Disconnect the red and brown wires from the (+) ignition coil terminal.
3. Disconnect the yellow and blue wires from the (-) ignition coil terminal.
4. Disconnect the pink, white and black wires from the igniter unit.
Removal of Igniter:
5. Remove the two igniter retaining screws and lift the igniter out of the distributor housing.
6. Discard the retaining screws.
7. Discard the igniter.
Installation of Igniter:
Installation of Igniter
1. Install a new igniter using two new retaining screws.
2. Install the pick-up coil (signal generator) lead wire as indicated below.
Note: Two different types of end terminal on pick-up coil lead wires
Separate Nut Terminal: Twist lead wires as illustrated, then install white wire terminal first onto the pick-up coil side igniter terminal. Welded Nut Terminal: Install white wire terminal first onto the pick-up coil side igniter terminal without twisting the lead wires.
Insert Pink And White Wires:
3. Insert pink and white wires into clamp as illustrated.
Igniter Installation - Wire Routing:
4. Install black wire to original position.
5. Check that the wires do not contact the rotor, distributor housing or advance plate.
6. Route red and yellow wires from the igniter so that it will not contact any moving parts.
Igniter Installation - Wire Routing:
7. Connect brown wire, then red wire to the (+) ignition coil terminal.
8. Connect yellow wire, then blue wire to the (-) ignition coil terminal.
9. Check that wires are routed properly into the grooves as illustrated.
10. Install igniter cover, coil cover, rotor and distributor cap.
11. Connect green wire connector to the distributor assembly.

Following the installation of the igniter, a SSC completion label must be affixed to the firewall.
Additional SSC completion labels (00410-01917) may be ordered through the non-parts system on a 1450 order form or through the TDN system.
