TITLE: INTRUSION MONITORING SYSTEM ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

When installing the IMS system in a Toyota vehicle, it is sometimes helpful to know the function of the various wires in the IMS system. If the wire colors in the vehicle wiring harness have changed or if the PIN locations for the wires do not correspond to printed instructions, adjustments can be made using the information contained in this bulletin. The following matrix defines both the colors of the IMS wires and the functions of the vehicle wires to be used.

When testing the voltage in a wire, use a voltmeter or test light. Make sure to operate all accessories such as the radio, wipers, etc, to be sure a correct reading is obtained. Note that when discussing voltage characteristics, "hot" means carrying a voltage of 12-16 volts DC and "cold" means carrying a voltage of 0 volts or being attached to ground.
INTRUSION MONITORING SYSTEM ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

IMS WIRE FUNCTION VOLTAGE CHARACTERISTICS
COLOR OF WIRE IN VEHICLE HARNESS

RED Battery Always hot, even when starting the vehicle.
power

ORANGE Accessory Hot whenever the ignition key is turned on
power The radio, for example, is on accessory power.

YELLOW Parking Hot when parking lights are on.
lights

GRAY Door open Hot when door is closed, cold when door
sensor is open. Be sure to select a wire that remains
hot when hood or trunk/hatchback are open as this must not affect the door circuit. Any wire which operates a warning light or a dome light is hot when a driver or passenger door is open and therefore should not be used. Do not use any wire on which a diode is used to reduce or change voltage in the wire.

BLACK Hood and Voltage characteristics same as door
trunk open circuit. Exercise the same cautions noted
sensor above for the door circuit. Voltage characteristics
must function independently of Driver/Passenger door circuit.

GREEN Ground Always cold.
