1985-86 Pickup & 4RUNNER W/A340E

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then disconnect air cleaner assembly.
2. Disconnect throttle cable, then the starter upper mounting nut.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission fluid.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors from solenoids, neutral safety switch and back-up light switch.
5. Remove starter then the driveshaft.
6. Disconnect speedometer cable, then the manual shift linkage.
7. Remove clamps, then the oil cooler lines from transmission case.
8. Disconnect exhaust pipe clamp, then remove filler tube.
9. Slightly raise and support transmission assembly using a suitable jack, then remove attaching bolts and engine rear mount with bracket.
10. Remove engine under cover.
11. Insert a suitable wooden block between engine oil pan and crossmember, then lower transmission and rest engine on crossmember.
12. Remove six torque converter attaching bolts, then install a suitable guide pin into one torque converter attaching bolt hole.
13. Remove stiffener plates from each side of transmission, then remove converter housing attaching bolts.
14. Pry on end of guide pin and move transmission and converter rearward.
15. Lower transmission from vehicle and remove converter.
16. Reverse procedure to install.
