Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove right seat from vehicle.
3. Remove engine service cover attaching screws, then the cover.
4. Drain cooling system.
5. Disconnect and plug, radiator, heater, brake booster, reservoir tank, fuel and charcoal canister hoses.
6. Remove air cleaner assembly.
7. Remove power steering pump, if equipped.
8. Remove accelerator cable and bracket from throttle body.
9. Disconnect and mark all electrical connectors from engine.
10. Remove fan shroud, fan, fan clutch and water pump pulley.
11. Disconnect ECU electrical connectors.
12. Remove A/C compressor from engine, if equipped. Do not disconnect refrigerant lines.
13. Raise vehicle approximately 40 inches, then support vehicle.
14. Drain oil from engine.
15. Disconnect driveshaft from transmission.
16. Remove front exhaust pipe.
17. Disconnect transmission select and shift control cables.
18. Remove clutch release cylinder.
19. Remove starter motor from engine.
20. Disconnect speedometer cable and ground strap.
21. Disconnect back-up light switch electrical connector.
22. Disconnect rear heater control cable, if equipped.
23. Disconnect and plug heater hoses.
24. Disconnect engine ground strap from engine mount.
25. Remove engine under cover attaching screws, then the under cover.
26. On automatic transmission models, disconnect and plug transmission fluid cooler lines.
27. Remove strut bars.
28. Position suitable engine removal equipment below engine.
29. Remove engine and transmission assembly from underneath vehicle.
30. Reverse procedure to install.
