Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission fluid.
3. On 2WD models, remove propeller shaft as follows:
a. Place matchmarks on differential and propeller shaft flanges.
b. Remove 4 attaching bolts and nuts, then disconnect propeller shaft from differential.
c. Pull propeller shaft yoke from transmission, then insert tool No. 09325-20010 into extension housing.
4. On 4WD models, remove front and rear propeller shafts.
5. On all models, disconnect back-up lamp switch connector.
6. On 4WD models, disconnect transfer indicator switch connector.
7. On all models, disconnect speedometer cable and ground strap, then remove attaching nuts and retainers from transmission control cables.
8. Remove clutch release cylinder, then disconnect front exhaust pipe.
9. Remove starter and control cable bracket.
10. Slightly raise transmission assembly, using a suitable jack, then remove or disconnect engine rear mount.
11. Remove transmission rear mount bolts, then pull transmission assembly downward and rearward.
12. On 4WD models, separate transfer case from transmission case as follows:
a. Remove engine rear mounting.
b. Remove transfer case to transmission case attaching bolts, then separate transfer case from transmission case.
13. Reverse procedure to install.
