Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview


Before suspecting the EFI/TCCS system is the cause of a driveability problem, first check the condition of other related systems. Check the following in order given:
1. Electronic source: check battery, fusible links and all fuses. Ensure these components are in satisfactory condition.
2. Body ground: check body ground to ensure proper attachment.
3. Fuel supply: check for fuel leakage. Correct leakage problems. Check fuel filter and pump for satisfactory operation.
4. Ignition system: check spark plugs, spark plug cables, distributor, ignition coil and igniter. Ensure this system is operating properly before attempting system service.
5. Air induction (intake) system: check air induction system for vacuum leaks. Correct leakage problems.
6. Emission control system: check positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) and exhaust gas recirculation systems. Ensure these systems are operating properly.
7. Electronic spark advance (ESA) and idle speed control (ISC) systems: ensure these systems are operating properly.
