Distributor: Service and Repair
Distributor, Exploded View:
REMOVAL:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Disconnect primary distributor connector.
3. Remove distributor cap retaining screws, distributor cap and spark plug wires.
TDC Timing Mark:
4. Turn crankshaft clockwise, and align #1 cylinder to TDC.
Distributor Rotor Alignment:
5. Ensure proper rotor position.
Distributor Hold Down Bolt:
6. Remove hold down bolt and distributor.
INSTALLATION:
Distributor O-ring:
1. Install a new O-ring to distributor housing and apply a light coat of engine oil prior to installation.
2. Ensure #1 cylinder is in TDC position.
Oil Pump Shaft Alignment:
3. Properly align oil pump slot.
Distributor Alignment:
4. Install distributor, aligning center of the flange with bolt hole on the cylinder head, drilled mark facing upward.
Distributor Rotor Alignment:
6. When distributor is fully seated rotor should point to #1 cylinder spark plug wire terminal.
5. Lightly tighten hold down bolt.
6. Install cap and plug wires in proper firing order.
Firing Order: 1 5 3 6 2 4
7. Reconnect primary distributor connector and negative battery terminal.
8. To adjust ignition timing, refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
9. Torque distributor hold down bolt.
Torque: 14 ftlb (19 Nm)
