Wiper Relay

1. On 1989-90 Land Cruiser, inspect front wiper relay for continuity between terminals 1 and 3, no continuity should be indicated.
2. Ensure continuity between terminals 2 and 3, Fig. 25.
3. If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.
4. Inspect front wiper relay operation as follows:
a. Connect battery positive lead to terminal 1 and negative lead to terminals 4 and 5.
b. Connect positive battery lead to terminal 2 for about 1 second.
c. Ensure no continuity between terminals 1 and 3 for 3 to 5 seconds, then continuity is indicated.
d. Connect positive battery lead to terminal 1 and negative to terminals 5 and 6.
e. Inspect for continuity between terminals 1 and 3 for about .5 seconds.
f. Disconnect battery negative lead from terminal 6, ensure not continuity exists between terminals 1 and 3 after about 2 seconds.
g. If operation is not as indicated, replace relay.
2. On all models, inspect rear wiper relay operation as follows:
a. Ensure no continuity exists between terminals 1 and 3.
b. Continuity should exist between terminals 2 and 3.
c. If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.
d. Connect positive battery lead to terminal 1 and negative to terminal 6.
e. Ensure continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
f. Ensure no continuity exists between terminals 2 and 3.
g. Connect battery positive lead to terminals 1 and 2 and negative lead to terminal 4, ensure continuity exists between terminals 1 and 5 for 5 seconds, then no continuity exists.
h. Disconnect battery positive lead from terminal 2, no continuity should exist between terminals 1 and 3 for 9-15 seconds, then continuity should exist.
i. If operation is not as indicated, replace relay.
