The mixture control system is used to allow air to enter the intake manifold on sudden deceleration, reducing HC and CO emissions. The mixture control valve which is mounted in the air cleaner is a vacuum controlled air bleed that monitors manifold vacuum and opens only under high intake manifold vacuum (sudden deceleration).
