Removal and Installation

Exploded View Distributor:

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

2. Remove passenger seat.

3. Remove engine service hole cover.

Ignition Wire Removal:

4. Disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs.

Distributor Removal:

5. Remove distributor hold down bolt and distributor.

INSTALLATION:


1. Install a new O-ring to the distributor housing and apply a light coat of engine oil prior to installation.

2. Remove #1 spark plug.

TDC Timing Marks:

3. Place your finger over hole of #1 spark plug. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to TDC.

NOTE: If pressure is felt on #1 spark plug hole #1 cylinder is TDC/compression stroke. If no pressure is felt turn crankshaft one full turn.

4. Install #1 spark plug.

Oil Pump Drive Alignment:

5. Align oil pump slot.

Distributor Installation:

6. Align groove of housing with drill mark on drive gear.

7. Insert distributor, aligning center of flange with that of the bolt hole on cylinder block.

8. Connect distributor connectors. Install distributor cap and rotor. Connect spark plug wires in proper firing order.

Firing Order: 1 - 3 - 4 - 2

9. Lightly tighten hold down bolt.

10. Reconnect negative battery terminal.

11. Adjust ignition timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.

12. Torque distributor hold down bolt.

Torque: 14 ftlb (19 Nm)

13. Install engine service hole cover and front seat.
