Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove right front seat from vehicle.
3. Remove engine service hole cover, then drain coolant into suitable container.
4. Disconnect the following:
a. Upper and lower radiator hoses.
b. Radiator breather hose and radiator reservoir tank hose.
c. Brake booster hose.
d. Fuel inlet and outlet. Plug openings to prevent leakage and dirt entry.
e. Charcoal canister hose.
f. Water temperature gauge sender connector.
g. Oil pressure switch and distributor connectors.
h. On models equipped with A/C; compressor clutch electrical connector, A/C idle-up Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) and Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) VSV.
i. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect three wire connectors.
j. On all models, water temperature switch connector.
k. Alternator wiring and air flow meter wire connector.
l. Solenoid resistor connector.
m. Two connectors.
5. Remove air cleaner hose, then the power steering pump.
6. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle linkage.
7. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect throttle valve cable from throttle linkage.
8. On all models, remove radiator as follows:
a. On models equipped with automatic transmission, disconnect oil cooler hoses.
b. On all models, remove fan shroud, then radiator upper attaching bolt.
c. Raise and support vehicle.
d. Remove engine undercover from underneath vehicle.
e. Working below vehicle, remove radiator attaching nuts and withdraw radiator from the frame.
f. Lower vehicle.
9. Remove the left side center pillar garnish molding, seat belt retractor and cover, then disconnect Electronic Control Unit (ECU) wire connectors.
10. On models equipped with A/C, remove compressor with hoses attached and position aside.
11. On all models, raise vehicle approximately 40 inches, then support vehicle.
12. Drain oil from engine.
13. Disconnect driveshaft(s).
14. Remove front exhaust pipe.
15. Disconnect transmission select and shift control cables.
16. Remove clutch slave cylinder.
17. Remove starter motor from engine.
18. Disconnect speedometer cable and ground strap.
19. Disconnect back-up light switch electrical connector.
20. On 4WD models, disconnect transfer case indicator lamp connector.
21. On models equipped with rear heater, disconnect rear heater control cables.
22. On all models, disconnect and plug heater hoses.
23. Disconnect engine ground strap from engine mount.
24. Disconnect oil level sensor connector.
25. On 2WD models, remove strut bars. On 4WD models, remove stabilizer bar.
26. On all models, position suitable engine removal equipment below engine.
27. Disconnect rear engine mount, then remove the engine front member-to-frame attaching bolts.
28. On 4WD models, remove front suspension rear crossmember.
29. On all models, lower engine and transmission assembly to floor, then remove front member from engine.
30. Separate engine from transmission assembly.
31. Reverse procedure to install.
