Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge system refrigerant.
2. Disconnect refrigerant lines at cooling unit Fig. 14, capping all openings.
3. Remove grommets from inlet and outlet fittings.
4. Remove glove box, then disconnect electrical connectors from cooling unit.
5. Remove cooling unit, then the wiring harness.
6. On 1991-92 models, remove magnetic clutch relay, rear cooler relay and A/C amplifier.
7. On all models, remove thermistor connector from case, if necessary.
8. Remove clips and four screws that secure upper and lower cases, Fig. 15.
9. Remove heat insulator, then disconnect liquid tube from inlet fitting of evaporator.
10. Remove pressure switch.
11. Reverse procedure to install. If evaporator was replaced, add 1.4-1.7 ounces of compressor oil to compressor.
