Ignition Rotor: Description and Operation

The distributor rotor is located on the distributor shaft. The rotor contacts the coil carbon terminal in the center of the distributor cap. As the rotor rotates, it transfers high voltage from the carbon terminal to the spark plug terminals in a pre-determined sequence (firing order).
