Date: 02/01/91 No: 91-22 Ref:_____

SUBJECT: REAR TRUCK BUMPERS

Inspections of truck bumpers returned to the Toyota Parts Inspection Center have revealed that an extremely high percentage of rear truck bumpers replaced under warranty did not have warrantable defects. In order to reduce the number of non-warrantable repairs performed by dealers as well as debits resulting from these repairs please ensure that all service personnel at your dealership are familiar with the warranty guidelines for rear truck bumpers listed below.

Warrantable Conditions:

^ Rust on upper or outer surfaces of bumper

^ Chrome stains which cannot be removed by buffing or polishing of the bumper

Non-warrantable Conditions:

^ Star dust (small nickel deposits on the under surface of chrome or lower angled faces of the bumper)

^ Chrome stains which can be removed by buffing or polishing the bumper

^ Pitting (small surface holes) on the surface of the bumper

^ Surface roughness (other than "star dust") on bumper

^ Rust on bottom or internal surfaces of bumper

Should your dealership determine that, in the interest of customer satisfaction, a bumper exhibiting one of the above non-warrantable defects should be replaced, the claim must be authorized using goodwill procedures and must clearly state "goodwill" in the Condition/Cause/Remedy text of the claim.

Please refer to Section 6, page 18 of the 1991 Policy and Procedures Manual for additional information on warranty repairs to rear truck bumpers.
