Distributor: Service and Repair

Distributor, Exploded View:

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

2. Remove passenger seat.

3. Remove engine service hole cover.

4. Install a service bolt and nut to the equipment drive shaft.

TDC And Camshaft Alignment:

5. Turn crankshaft pulley until timing mark is aligned with "0" mark on timing chain cover.

6. Remove the service bolt.

CAUTION: If service bolt is not removed, cooling system damage will result.

7. Disconnect spark plug wires from distributor cap.

8. Disconnect distributor connector and two ventilation hoses.

9. Remove distributor cap and packing.

Distributor Hold Down Bolt:

10. Remove hold down bolt and distributor.

INSTALLATION:

Distributor O-ring:

1. Install a new O-ring to the distributor housing and apply a light coat of engine oil prior to installation.

Distributor Alignment:

2. Align groove of the housing with cut out portion of coupling.

Distributor Hold Down Bolt:

3. Insert distributor, aligning center of the flange with that of the bolt hole on cylinder head.

4. Connect distributor connectors. Install distributor cap and rotor. Connect spark plug wires in proper firing order.

Firing Order: 1 - 3 - 4 - 2

5. Lightly tighten hold down bolt.

6. Reconnect negative battery terminal.

7. Adjust ignition timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.

8. Torque distributor hold down bolt.

Torque: 14 ftlb (19 Nm)

9. Install engine service hole cover and front seat.
