Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Injector Inspection

INJECTOR INSPECTION
1. Remove RH engine service hole cover.
2. Check for operating sound from each injector.

3. With the engine running or cranking, use a sound scope to check that there is normal operating noise in proportion to engine rpm.

NOTE: If you have no sound scope, You can check the injector transmission operation with your finger.

4. If no sound or an unusual sound is heard, check the wiring connector, injector or injection signal from ECU.

MEASURE RESISTANCE OF INJECTORS
1. Unplug the wiring connector from the injector.
2. Using an ohmmeter measure the resistance of both terminals.

Resistance: 13.4-14.2 ohm

3. Install RH engine service hole cover.

REMOVAL OF INJECTOR
1. Disconnect cable from negative (-) terminal of battery.
2. Remove rh engine service hole cover.
3. Remove pcv hose.

4. Remove the two bolts and disconnect the engine wire from the cylinder head.

5. Remove the four bolts and disconnect the engine wire from the intake manifold and delivery pipe.
6. Disconnect vacuum hose and fuel return hose from pressure regulator.

7. Remove the union bolt and two gaskets for fuel pipe.

8. Remove the two bolts, and remove the delivery pipe and two spacers.
9. Remove four insulators to the delivery pipe.

TEST INJECTION OF INJECTORS

CAUTION: Keep clear of sparks during the test.

1. Disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel filter outlet tube.
2. Connect SST (09268-41045) (90405-09015) (Union), to the fuel filter outlet.

3. Install SST (09268-41045) (90405-09015, 09268-41080) (Union), and hoses to the delivery pipe.

4. Connect the fuel return hose to the pressure regulator.
5. Put the injector into the graduated cylinder.
6. Connect the battery cable.
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

NOTE: Do not start the engine.

8. Using SST (09843-18020), connect terminals FP and +B of the check connector.

NOTE: The check connector is located under the drivers seat.

9. Connect SST (09842-30070), (Wire) to the injector and battery for 15 seconds and measure the injection volume with a graduated cylinder. Test each injector two or three times. If not within specified volume, replace the injector.

Volume: 65-75 cc/15 sec. (4.0-4.6 Cu.in.)
Difference between each injector: 6 cc (0.4 Cu.in.) or less

CHECK INJECTORS FOR LEAKAGE
1. In the condition above, disconnect SST (09842-30070), from the battery and check for fuel leakage from the injector nozzle.

Allowable Fuel leakage: One drop or less of fuel per three minutes

2. Disconnect the battery cable.
2. Remove SSTs.

IF NECESSARY, REPLACE INJECTORS

1. Remove the four bolts, injector covers and four insulators.

2. Using SST (09268-74010), remove the injector.

3. Lubricate the 0-rings with a spindle oil or gasoline, install new 0-rings and insulator to the injector.
4. Check that the 0-ring is not twisted or inverted.

5. Push the injector into the delivery pipe by hand.

6. Check the injector connector is along the center line of the delivery pipe, as shown in the illustration.

7. Install the insulator to each injector.

8. Install the two injector covers with the four bolts.
9. Install the insulator to each injector.

INSTALLATION OF INJECTORS
1. Install four new insulators on the delivery pipe.
2. Install the injectors together with the delivery pipe, two spacers and two bolts on the cylinder head. Torque the two bolts.

Torque: 200 kg/cm (14 ft.lbs., 20 Nm)

3. Connect the fuel pipe with the union bolt and two new gaskets.

Torque: 300 kg/cm (20 ft.lbs., 30 Nm)

4. Connect vacuum hose and fuel return hose to pressure regulator.

5. Install the engine wire to the intake manifold and delivery pipe with the four bolts.

6. Connect the engine wire to the cylinder head with the two bolts.

7. install pcv hose.
8. Install RH engine service hole cover.
9. Connect cable to negative (-) terminal of battery.
