The full time all wheel (4 wheel) drive system used on Celica is equipped with a viscous coupling. The E56F2 manual transaxle used on Camry models, Fig. 1, or the E50F2 or E150F manual transaxle used on Celica models, Fig. 2, or the G57 manual transaxle on Previa models, Fig. 3, incorporates a viscous coupling, basic transaxle components, the center differential, front differential and the transfer assembly is built into the same quadruple case axle.
The center differential, which compensates for the difference between the rotational speed of the front and rear wheels, provides durability and reliability by utilizing beveled gears to distribute engine power from the transaxle to both front and rear driveshaft in a 50% split of engine power. The center differential has been equipped with a control coupling which functions similar to a limited slip differential.
