Air Bag Systems: Service Precautions

FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR

Never reuse front airbag sensors that have been involved in a collision when the airbag has been deployed. Do not disassemble front airbag sensors. Install the front airbag sensor with the arrow on the sensor facing toward the front of the vehicle. The front airbag sensor set bolts and nuts have been anti-rust treated, when then sensor is removed, always replace set bolt and nut.

SPIRAL CABLE

The spiral cable must be installed in the neutral position or airbag deployment may occur.

STEERING WHEEL PAD

When removing steering wheel pad or handling new pad, place on level surface with pad top facing upward. The twin-lock connector lock lever should be in the lock position. Do not damage connector. Do not disassemble steering wheel pad assembly. Do not store steering wheel pads on top of another. Store pad where ambient temperature remains below 200°F without humidity and away from electrical noise. Do not apply grease to pad and pad should not be cleaned with detergents. When using electric welding, disconnect airbag connector below steering column near combination switch before performing service.

CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

The center airbag sensor assembly contains mercury, after replacement or service, do not destroy old part, dispose of as toxic waste. Do not disassemble center airbag sensor assembly. When disconnecting sensor assembly electrical connectors, ensure assembly is properly mounted to floor or accidental airbag deployment may occur.
