Deployment Outside Vehicle

1. Disarm airbag system as described under Technician Safety Information.
2. Remove Driver's air bag as described under Air Bag Control Module.
3. Using bolts and washers, bolt air bag to a discarded tire and rim.




4. Wrap three pieces of thick wire at least two times around each air bag bolt. Wrap harness through wheel nut holes and securely tie off, Fig. 23.
5. Connect special deployment tool No. 09082-00700, or equivalent, to air bag electrical connector from underneath wheel.
6. Ensure pad is facing upward. Cover wheel and pad with a large cardboard box, and weigh down in four places.
7. Move tool at least 33 feet away from wheel.
8. Connect tool to a fully charged 12 volt battery.
9. Ensure no people, animals or objects are within 33 feet of air bag.
10. Press deployment button and deploy air bag.
11. If air bag does not deploy, consult dealer for disposal procedures.
