Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Connect tachometer.
- Connect the test probe of a tachometer to terminal IG - of the data link connector 1.
NOTICE:
- Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil.
- As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system. we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.
3. Adjust ignition timing.
- Using SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC1 (SST 09843-18020).
- Connect the power source terminal of the timing light to terminal 30 of the starter and test probe to the No. 1 high-tension cord (light blue).
- Check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: 5° BTDC @ idle
- Loosen the hold-down bolts, and adjust by turning the distributor.
- Tighten the hold-down bolts and recheck the ignition timing.
Torque: 19 Nm (195 kgf.cm. 14 ft.lb)
- Remove the SST from the DLC1. SST 09843-18020
4. Further check ignition timing.
- Check that the ignition timing advances.
Ignition timing: 12° BTDC at idle
5. Disconnect tachometer and timing light from engine.
