Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection

PROCEDURE

NOTE: This is a test of the Ignition circuit. As there is no component test of the Igniter itself, a process of elimination is used to find if the Igniter is at fault.

1. Remove the exhaust pipe heat insulator.
2. Disconnect high-tension cord from the distributor.
3. Hold the end approx. 12.5 mm (0.50 in.) from engine ground of vehicle.
4. See if spark occurs while engine is being cranked.

HINT: To prevent gasoline from being injected from injectors during this test, crank the engine for no more than 1 - 2 seconds at a time.





5. If the spark does not occur, perform the test as shown.
