Engine: Service and Repair

1. Obtain audio anti-theft code, if equipped, as outlined in Technician Safety Information. On models with air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
2. Disconnect battery cables.
3. Scribe hood hinge locations, then remove hood.
4. Remove engine under cover.
5. Drain coolant from radiator and engine.
6. Drain engine oil.
7. Drain transmission fluid.
8. Remove radiator as outlined in Radiator.
9. Remove belt drive for power steering pump:
a. Stretch belt and loosen fan pulley mounting nuts.
b. Loosen lock bolt, pivot bolt and adjusting bolt, then remove drive belt.
10. On models with A/C, loosen compressor idle pulley nut and adjusting bolt, then remove drive belt.
11. Loosen alternator lock bolt, pivot bolt and adjusting bolt, then remove drive belt.
12. Remove No. 2 fan shroud.
13. Remove fan with fluid coupling and fan pulleys.
14. Disconnect power steering pump from engine and position aside.
15. On models with A/C, disconnect compressor from mounting bracket and position aside. Remove compressor mounting bracket.
16. Remove air cleaner cap, MAF meter and resonator.
17. On models with cruise control, disconnect actuator cable.
18. Disconnect accelerator cable.
19. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect throttle cable.
20. Disconnect heater hose.
21. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose and EVAP hose.
22. Disconnect fuel return and inlet hoses.
23. Disconnect starter harness and connector.
24. Disconnect alternator harness and connector.
26. Remove front door scuff plate and cowl to disconnect ECM connectors.
27. Disconnect igniter connector and ground strap.
28. On models with manual transmission, remove shift lever assembly.
29. Disconnect propeller shaft.
30. Disconnect speedometer cable.
31. Remove front exhaust pipe.
32. On models with manual transmission, remove clutch release cylinder.
34. On models with automatic transmission,remove cross shaft.
35. Place suitable jack under transmission, then remove rear mounting bracket.
36. Attach engine hangers No. 12282-62030, or equivalent, to engine block. Install chain hoist to engine hangers.
37. Remove front engine mounting insulators, then lift engine with transmission out of vehicle.
38. Reverse procedure to install. On models with air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
If audio system was disabled, activate as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
