Drivetrain - Driveline Engagement Noise

Title: DRIVELINE ENGAGEMENT NOISE - TACOMA (4WD)
To minimize driveline engagement noise when shifting into "D" or "R" position on 4WD automatic transmission models, the following changes have been made.
1. Washers were added to the Rear Transfer Output Shaft, between the speedometer drive gear and companion flange. The rear companion flange was also revised to accommodate added Washers.
Changes effective - VIN 4TA******TZO86OOO (P/D 9508)
2. Washers were added to the Intermediate Shaft between the center bearing and flange.
Change effective - VIN 4TA******TZ103100 (P/D 9510)

PARTS REPLACEMENT:
For affected vehicles built prior to production changes, install parts listed in previous table as follows:
1. Follow procedures outlined in the Repair Manual for assembly/disassembly of rear companion flange and/or center bearing flange.
2. Reinstall flanges with Washers as shown in illustrations at the beginning of this bulletin.
3. Be sure to tighten flange nuts to the torque specified in the Repair Manual.
NOTE:
Washers may only be used on rear transfer output shaft in conjunction with REVISED companion flange.
