Non-Tilt Steering Column (2 Of 2):
REMOVAL
1. Remove the steering wheel pad by performing the following.
NOTE:
^ If the airbag connector is disconnected with the ignition switch at ON or ACC, DTCs will be recorded.
^ Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new parts.
a. Place the front wheels facing straight ahead.
b. Remove the two steering wheel lower No.2 covers.
c. Using a torx socket wrench, loosen the two torx screws.
NOTE: Loosen the screw until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.
d. Pull out the wheel pad from the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag connector.
CAUTION:
^ When storing the wheel pad, keep the upper surface of the pad facing upward.
^ Never disassemble the wheel pad.
NOTE: When removing the wheel pad, take care not to pull the airbag wire harness.
2. Remove the steering wheel after doing the following.
a. Remove the steering wheel set nut.
b. Place matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
c. Using the 09950-50010 (09951 - 05010, 09952 - 05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05020) Special Service Tool (SST), remove the wheel.
d. Disconnect the connector.
3. Remove the upper and lower column covers after removing the three screws.
4. Remove the lower left hand finish panel by performing the following.
a. Remove the two screws and disconnect the hood lock release lever from the panel.
b. Remove the two screws and disconnect the fuel lid release lever from the panel.
c. Remove the four panel set bolts.
5. Remove the No. 2 heater to register duct after removing the screw.
6. Remove the combination switch with spiral cable, doing the following.
a. Disconnect the two connectors.
b. Disconnect the airbag connector.
c. Remove the three screws.
7. Remove the spiral cable.
NOTE: Do not disassemble the cable or apply oil to it.
8. Remove the brake pedal return spring.
9. Remove the No.2 intermediate shaft by performing the following.
a. Place matchmarks on the No.2 universal joint and No.2. intermediate shaft.
b. Remove the A bolt.
c. Place matchmarks on the No.2 intermediate shaft and control valve shaft.
d. Remove the B bolt.
e. Slide the intermediate shaft No.2 and remove the intermediate shaft No.2.
10. Remove the column hole cover and the column hole cover No.2 set bolt after removing the five bolts.
11. Remove the four steering column set nuts. Pull out the steering column assembly with universal joint No.2.
12. Disconnect the universal joint No.2 by doing the following.
a. Place matchmarks on the steering column assembly and universal joint No.2.
b. Remove the bolt.
c. Remove the column hole cover and column hole cover No.2.
INSTALLATION
1. Connect the No.2 universal joint by performing the following.
a. Insert the column hole cover and column hole cover No.2.
b. Align the matchmarks on the column assembly and universal joint No.2.
c. Tighten the bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the column assembly with No.2 universal joint by doing the following.
a. Install the column assembly with the No.2 universal joint .
b. Tighten the four steering column nuts to 26 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the column hole cover and column hole cover No.2 and tighten the five bolts 8.0 Nm (69 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the intermediate shaft No.2, doing the following.
a. Align the matchmarks on the universal joint No.2 and intermediate shaft No.2.
b. Align the matchmarks on the control valve shaft and intermediate shaft No.2.
c. Tighten the A and B bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the brake pedal return spring.
6. Install the spiral cable.
7. Install the combination switch with spiral cable, doing these steps.
a. Install the three screws.
b. Connect the air bag connector.
c. Connect the two connectors.
8. Install the No.2 heater to register duct then install the screw.
9. Install the left hand lower finish panel by performing the following.
a. Install the four panel set bolts.
b. Connect the hood lock release lever and fuel lid release lever with the four screws.
10. Install the upper and lower column covers then install the three screws.
11. Center the spiral cable and then do the following.
a. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
b. Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn the cable.
c. Then rotate the cable clockwise about three turns to align the mark.
NOTE: The cable will rotate about three turns to either left or right of the center.
12. Install the steering wheel by performing the following procedures.
a. Align the matchmarks on the wheel and main shaft.
b. Tighten the wheel set nut to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
c) Connect the connector.
13. Install the steering wheel pad by performing the following procedures.
NOTE:
^ Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque.
^ If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
^ When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and are not pinched between other parts.
a. Connect the airbag connector.
b. Install the wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torx screw is caught on the screw case.
c. Using a torx socket wrench, tighten the two screws to 9.0 Nm (78 inch lbs.).
d. Install the two steering wheel lower No.2 covers.
14. Check the steering wheel center point
