Wheels and Tires: Testing and Inspection

1. Inspect tire, as follows:
a. Check the tires for wear and for the proper inflation pressure, the cold tire inflation pressure for vehicles driving under 120 km/h (75 mph) are as follows:

Tire Size: P215/75 R15
Tire Pressure:
Front: 230 kPa (33 psi)
Rear: 240 kPa (35 psi)

Tire Size (1/2 ton): P235/75 R15
Tire Pressure:
Front: 180 kPa (26 psi)
Rear: 200 kPa (29 psi)

Tire Size (1 ton): P235/75 R15
Tire Pressure:
Front: 180 kPa (26 psi)
Rear: 280 kPa (41 psi)





b. Check the tire runout.
Tire runout: 3.0 mm (0.118 inch) or less.





2. Rotating tires.

NOTE: See the illustration for where to rotate each tire.





3. Inspect wheel balance, as follows:
a. Check and adjust the off-the-car balance.
b. If necessary, check and adjust the on-the-car balance.

Unbalance after adjustment: 14.0 g (0.031 lbs.) or less.





4. Check wheel bearing looseness. Check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction.

Maximum backlash: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch).

5. Check front suspension for looseness.
6. Check steering linkage for looseness.
7. Check ball joint for looseness.
8. Check to see if shock absorber works properly, as follows:
- Check for oil leaks.
- Check mounting bushings for wear.
- Bounce front and rear of vehicle.
