Wheels and Tires: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION1. Inspect the tire by performing these procedures.
a. Check the tires for wear and for the proper inflation pressure.
Cold tire inflation pressure:
Tire Size: P225/75 R15
Front and Rear: 200 kPa (29 psi)
Tire Size: P265/70 R16
Front and Rear: 220 kPa (32 psi)
b. Check the tire runout.
Tire runout: 3.0 mm (0.118 inch) or less.
2. Rotate tire.
HINT: See the illustration for where to rotate each tire when you include the spare tire in rotation.
3. Inspect wheel balance.
a. Check and adjust the off-the-car balance.
b. If necessary, check and adjust the on-the-car balance.
Unbalance after adjustment: 14.0 g (0.031 lbs.) or less.
4. Check the front suspension for looseness.
5. Check the steering linkage for looseness.
6. Check the ball joint for looseness.
7. Check to see if the shock absorber works properly.
- Check for oil leak.
- Check the mounting bushings for wear.
- Bounce front and rear of the vehicle.
