Introduction






Beginning in March of 1998, the A540E has been revised. When servicing this transmission, use the 1993 Repair Manual No. RM326U in addition to the update changes detailed in this service bulletin.

- Drive Pinion Bearing Spacer No. 2 has been added onto drive pinion shaft.

- Length of Drive Pinion Spacer (crush sleeve) has been reduced.

- Overdrive Case Oil Baffle is discontinued.

Affected Vehicles
- 1998 Siennas with A540E transmissions built before VIN 4T3*F1*CWU043545.

Procedure Changes
1. Install the drive pinion into the transaxle case.






a. Place the bearing cage onto the drive pinion shaft.

NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the oil seals with the pinion shaft.






b. Using a hammer and brass bar, slightly tap the bearing cage into the transaxle case until the snap ring groove in the bore can be seen.






c. Using SST 09350-32014 (09351-32050), install snap ring into bore.






2. Place Drive Pinion Bearing Spacer No. 2 onto the drive pinion shaft.






3. Place the oil slinger and drive pinion bearing spacer onto the drive pinion shaft.






4. Remove and discard the original Overdrive Case Oil Baffle and 3 retaining bolts as shown.
