Subject:
SPEED SENSOR COVER REPLACEMENT WITH NEW TRANSAXLE

The (A540E) transaxle used in 1998-2000 model year Sienna vehicles incorporates a speed sensor housing on the differential cover. However, no speed sensor is used in Canada. There is a plastic plug installed by the plant to cover the hole, which is for shipping purposes only. If the transaxle is installed with this plastic plug, fluid pressure will push it out of the hole, causing automatic transmission fluid to leak.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 1998-2000 model year Sienna vehicles.

PART INFORMATION:

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:
When installing a new transaxle (P/N 30500 45010), remove the Cover Sub Assembly (P/N 33403 20250) from the original transaxle for installation on the replacement transaxle.

NOTE:
Remanufactured transaxles already have the Speed Sensor Cover Sub Assembly installed.

NOTE:
When replacing this transaxle, save the Speed Sensor Cover Sub Assembly for installation on the new transaxle.

NOTE:
Issue of this Technical Service Bulletin is to ensure that proper repair information is available. IT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN AUTHORIZATION FOR REPAIR. Normal provisions of the formal warranty policy, as applicable, will apply.
