Removal and Installation






REMOVAL





1. M/T: REMOVE TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER
a. Remove the 4 screws and front console box.
b. Remove the 4 screws and shift lever boot retainer.
c. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring and pull out the shift lever.

HINT:
^ Shift the transfer shift lever to the "H4" position.
^ At the time of installation, apply Multipurpose (MP) grease to the tip of the shift lever.





2. A/T: REMOVE TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER
a. Remove the 4 screws and the boot.
b. Using pliers, remove the snap ring and pull out the shift lever from the transfer.

HINT:
^ Shift the transfer shift lever to the "H4" position.
^ At the time of installation, apply MP grease to the transfer shift lever.

3. REMOVE BREATHER HOSE
Disconnect the breather hose from transfer upper cover and transmission control retainer.

Hose depth: 13 mm (0.51 inch) or more





4. RAISE VEHICLE AND DRAIN TRANSFER OIL

Oil grade: API GL-4 or GL-5
Viscosity: SAE 75W-90
Capacity: 1.1 liters (1.2 US qts., 1.0 Imp. qts.)


5. REMOVE FRONT AND REAR PROPELLER SHAFT





6. Remove the 2 bolts and dynamic damper.

Torque: 37 Nm (380 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)





7. REMOVE CROSSMEMBER
a. Support the transmission rear side.
b. Remove the 3 bolts and transfer under cover.

Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)

c. Remove the 2 bolts and dynamic damper.

Torque: 61 Nm (620 kgf-cm, 44 ft. lbs.)

d. Remove the 4 set bolts of the engine rear mounting.

Torque: 18 Nm (180 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)

e. Remove the 8 bolts and crossmember.

Torque: 95 Nm (970 kgf-cm, 70 ft. lbs.)

8. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING
Remove the 4 bolts and engine rear mounting from the transmission.

Torque: 63 Nm (640 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.)

9. DISCONNECT VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR AND TRANSFER INDICATOR SWITCH CONNECTORS





10. REMOVE TRANSFER FROM TRANSMISSION
a. Remove the 9 bolts of the transfer adapter mounting.

Torque: 37 Nm (380 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)

b. Pull out the transfer down and toward the rear.

HINT: Take care not to damage the adapter rear oil seal with the transfer input gear spline.


INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
1. APPLY MP GREASE TO TRANSFER ADAPTOR OIL SEAL
2. AFTER INSTALLATION, DO ROAD TEST
