BACK DOOR CABLE ASSEMBLY IMPROVEMENT

Introduction
To improve the feel of back door operation, the cable assembly may be replaced as shown in the following procedure.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2001 - 2002 model year Sequoia produced before the VIN shown below.

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair procedure
1. Remove the back door trim board, (refer to the '01 or '02 Sequoia Repair Manual, Volume 2, page BO-25, steps 4-7)
NOTE:
Window glass should be in closed position.
2. Remove the no. 1 service hole cover.
3. Remove the back door lock protector sub-assembly and the three bolts that secure the back door lock to the door.
4. Remove the back door handle protector and detach the control cable from the outside handle.
5. Remove the two wire harness connectors from the back door lock then remove the back door lock from the inside of the back door.
6. Detach the back door lock control cable from the back door lock.
7. Attach the cylindrical end of the new back door lock control cable to the back door lock.
8. Attach the other end of the back door Procedure lock control cable to the outside handle and reinstall the back door handle protector.
9. Re-attach the two wire harness connectors to the back door lock and re-install the three back door lock bolts and the back door lock protector sub-assembly.
10. Re-install the no. 1 service hole cover.
11. Re-install the back door trim board. (refer to the '01 or '02 Sequoia Repair Manual, Volume 2, page BO-25, steps 4-7 in reverse order).
