Rear Differential
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE 2 REAR WHEELS
Torque: 110 Nm (1,122 kgf-cm, 81 ft. lbs.)
2. DRAIN HYPOID GEAR OIL
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
3. DISCONNECT BRAKE LINES
a. Using Special Service Tool (SST), disconnect the brake line and remove the clip.
SST 09023-00100
Torque: 15.5 Nm (158 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.)
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
4. REMOVE BRAKE CALIPER AND DISC
a. Remove the 2 bolts, brake caliper and disc.
Torque: 105 Nm (1,070 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.)
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the parking brake assembly.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and pull out the parking brake cable from the backing plate.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
c. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
6. REMOVE AXLE SHAFTS
a. Remove the 4 nuts.
Torque: 122 Nm (1,244 kgf-cm, 90 ft. lbs.)
b. Pull out the axle shaft and remove the O-ring.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the oil seal.
c. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
7. DISCONNECT REAR PROPELLER SHAFT
a. 4WD:
1. Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft and differential flange.
2. Remove the 4 nuts, bolts, washers and disconnect the propeller shaft.
Torque: 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.)
b. 2WD:
1. Place matchmarks on the propeller shaft and differential flange.
2. Remove the 4 nuts, stud bolts, washers and disconnect the propeller shaft.
Torque: 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.)
c. Support the propeller shaft securely.
8. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 10 nuts, washers and differential carrier assembly.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the installation surface.
Torque: 73 Nm (744 kgf-cm, 53 ft. lbs.)
b. Remove the gasket.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY
a. Install a new gasket.
b. Install the differential carrier assembly with 10 washers and nuts.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the installation surface.
Torque: 73 Nm (740 kgf-cm, 54 ft. lbs.)
2. CONNECT REAR PROPELLER SHAFT
2WD: See Propeller Shaft; Service and Repair.
4WD: See Propeller Shaft; Service and Repair.
3. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFTS
4. FILL DIFFERENTIAL WITH HYPOID GEAR OIL
