Liftgate Window Glass: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. REMOVE BACK DOOR ASSIST GRIP
a. Using a screwdriver, open the covers.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Remove the 2 screws and assist grip.
2. REMOVE BACK DOOR PULL STRAP
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the strap cover.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Remove the screw and pull strap.
3. REMOVE CENTER GARNISH
Using a screwdriver, remove the center garnish.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
4. REMOVE SIDE GARNISH
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the side garnish.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
5. REMOVE DOOR TRIM BOARD
a. Insert a screwdriver between the door and door trim to pry the trim out.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the door and door trim.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
b. Pull the trim to remove it.
6. REMOVE REAR WIPER ARM
Remove the nut and wiper arm.
7. REMOVE BACK DOOR GLASS
a. Push piano wire through from the interior.
b. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar object.
HINT: Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep the surface from being scratched.
NOTE: When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and exterior.
c. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.
HINT: Cut the adhesive areas as shown in the illustration, leaving the adhesive where the clips are.
d. Let the piano wire pass as shown in the illustration, cut off the adhered part to the clips.
NOTE: Do not damage the glass retainers.
e. Remove the glass.
NOTE: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.
INSTALLATION
1. CLEAN AND SHAPE CONTACT SURFACE OF BODY
a. Using a knife, cut away any rough areas on the body.
HINT: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body as possible.
b. Clean the cutting surface of the adhesive with a piece of shop rag saturated in cleaner.
2. CLEAN REMOVED GLASS
a. Using a scraper, remove the adhesive sticking to the glass.
b. Clean the glass with cleaner.
NOTE: Do not touch the glass surface after cleaning it.
3. COAT CONTACT SURFACE OF BODY WITH PRIMER "M"
Using a brush,Primer M to the exposed part of body on the vehicle side.
NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not coat primer M to the adhesive.
- Do not keep any of the opened primer M for later use.
4. COAT CONTACT SURFACE OF GLASS WITH PRIMER "G"
a. Using a brush or a sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with primer G.
b. Before the primer dries, wipe it off with a clean shop rag.
NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not keep any of the opened primer G for later use.
5. APPLY ADHESIVE
a. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle.
HINT: After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in the table.
b. Load the cartridge into the sealer gun.
c. Coat the glass with adhesive as shown-
A: 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
B: 8.0 mm (0.315 in.)
6. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS
a. Install the glass to the body.
b. Use adhesive tape to keep the glass installed tightly against the body.
NOTE: Take care not to drive the vehicle during the time described in the table.
7. INSPECT FOR LEAK AND REPAIR
a. Conduct a leak test after the hardening time has elapsed.
b. Seal any leak with sealant.
Part No. 08833-00030 or equivalent
8. INSTALL WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY
a. Install the grommet.
b. Install the wiper motor and link assembly with 5 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)
c. Connect the connector.
9. INSTALL BACK DOOR TRIM BOARD
Install the back door trim board to the back door panel.
10. INSTALL SIDE GARNISH
a. Install the side garnish to the back door panel.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
11. INSTALL CENTER GARNISH
a. Install the center garnish to the back door panel.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.
12. INSTALL BACK DOOR PULL STRAP
a. Install the pull strap with the screw.
b. Install the strap cover.
13. INSTALL BACK DOOR ASSIST GRIP
a. Install the assist grip with the 2 screws.
b. Close the covers.
14. INSTALL REAR WIPER ARM
a. Operate the wiper once and turn the wiper switch OFF.
b. Install the wiper arm and tighten nuts by hand.
c. Adjust the installation position of the wiper arm to the position shown in the illustration.
A: 38.6 mm (1.520 in.)
d. Torque the nuts.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)
