Oil Pump: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY
2. REMOVE WATER INLET AND WATER INLET HOUSING
a. Remove the 2 nut, water inlet and thermostat.
b. Remove the bolt and water inlet housing and gasket.
3. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER
DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE DRIVE AND DRIVEN ROTORS
Remove the 9 screws, pump cover, drive rotor, driven rotor and O-ring.
2. REMOVE RELIEF VALVE
a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.
b. Remove the retainer, spring(s) and relief valve.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT RELIEF VALVE
Coat the relief valve with engine oil and check that it falls smoothly into the valve hole by its own weight.
If the valve does not fall smoothly, replace the valve and/or oil pump assembly.
2. INSPECT DRIVE AND DRIVEN ROTORS
a. Inspect the rotor for body clearance.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the driven rotor and pump body.
Standard clearance: 0.100 - 0.175 mm (0.0039 - 0.0069 inch)
Maximum body clearance: 0.30 mm (0.0118 inch)
If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the oil pump rotor set and/or pump body.
b. Inspect the rotors for tip clearance.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the d rive and driven rotors.
Standard clearance: 0.003 - 0.090 mm (0.0012 - 0.0035 inch)
Maximum side clearance: 0.15 mm (0.0059 inch)
If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the oil pump rotor set.
c. Inspect the rotors for side clearance.
Using a feeler gauge and precision straight edge, measure the side clearance between the rotors and precision straight edge.
Standard clearance: 0.111 - 0.240 mm (0.0043 - 0.0094 inch)
Maximum tip clearance: 0.25 mm (0.0098 inch)
If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the oil pump rotor set and/or pump body.
REPLACEMENT
REPLACE CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL
HINT: There are 2 methods ((a) and (b)) to replace the oil seal.
a. If oil pump is removed from cylinder block:
1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the oil seal.
2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal until its surface is flush with the oil pump case edge.
SST 09223-50010
3. Apply MP grease to the oil seal lip.
b. If oil pump is installed cylinder block
1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the oil seal.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the crankshaft. Tape the screwdriver tip.
2. Apply MP grease to a new oil seal lip.
3. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal until its surface is flush with the oil pump case edge.

REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL RELIEF VALVE
a. Install the relief valve, spring(s) and retainer.
b. Using snap ring pliers, install the snap ring.
2. INSTALL DRIVE AND DRIVEN ROTORS
a. Place the drive and driven rotors into the pump body.
b. Place a new O-ring to the pump body.
c. Install the pump cover with the 9 screws.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TIMING CHAIN COVER
2. INSTALL WATER INLET AND WATER INLET HOUSING
