Introduction

Under severe cold conditions (approximately 0°F/-18°C or below), some 2001 - 2003 model year Highlander vehicles equipped with side airbags may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1140 or B1141 stored in the Center Airbag ECU memory. To prevent a M.I.L. "ON" condition, the Center Airbag ECU has been updated.

Repair Procedure

Refer to the appropriate repair manual procedure for diagnosis of the specific M.I.L. "ON" DTC present. Confirm that the ambient temperature during the M.I.L. "ON" was at or below 0°F (-18°C). If no trouble is found, after performing diagnosis for the M.I.L. "ON", replace the Center Airbag Sensor Assembly (Airbag ECU) with the new part number provided above.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
