Rear Axle Shaft LH Replacement
REPLACEMENTHINT: Replace the RH side by the same procedures with the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. REMOVE SPEED SENSOR REAR LH
3. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSY LH
4. REMOVE STRUT ROD ASSY REAR
5. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 2 LH
6. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 1 LH
7. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and brake caliper.
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
8. REMOVE REAR DISC
9. PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT COMPRESSION SPRING
11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT LH
12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE
13. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO. 3
14. REMOVE AXLE ASSY RR LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts, nuts and the rear axle from shock absorber.
15. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH
a. Mount axle carrier in a soft vise.
b. Using SST, remove the rear axle hub.
SST 09950-00020, 09521-00020
c. Using SST, remove the axle hub bearing inner race (outer side) from the axle hub.

16. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH OIL SEAL
a. Using SST, remove the oil seal (inner side).
SST 09308-00010
HINT: If the oil seal comes off together with the rear axle shaft, remove the oil seal from the shaft.
17. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE PLATE SUB-ASSY LH
a. Remove the 4 bolts and parking brake plate.
18. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH SNAP RING
a. Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.
19. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH BEARING
a. Using SST and a press, remove the bearing from the rear axle carrier.
SST 09527-17011, 09950-60010 (09951-00600), 09950-70010 (09951-07100)
20. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH BEARING
a. Using SST and a press, install the new bearing to the rear axle carrier.

21. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH SNAP RING
a. Using a snap ring expander, install the new snap ring.
22. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH OIL SEAL
a. Using SST and a press, install the new oil seal (outer side) to the rear axle shaft.

23. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE PLATE SUB-ASSY LH
a. Install the parking brake plate with the 4 nuts.
Torque: 72 Nm (730 kgf-cm, 53 ft. lbs.)
24. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH
a. Using SST and a press, install the axle shaft to the rear axle carrier.

25. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT LH OIL SEAL
a. Using SST and a press, install the new oil seal (inner side) to the rear axle carrier.

26. INSTALL AXLE ASSY RR LH
a. Install the rear axle to the shock absorber with the 2 bolts and nuts.
Torque: 255 Nm (2,600 kgf-cm, 188 ft. lbs.)
HINT: Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and install the nut.
27. CONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSY NO. 3
28. APPLICATION HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
29. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE
30. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT LH
31. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT COMPRESSION SPRING
32. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING
33. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
34. INSTALL REAR DISC
35. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
36. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY LH
a. Install the brake caliper with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 58 Nm (592 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)
b. Install the flexible hose and speed sensor wire harness with the bolt.
Torque: 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
37. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 1 LH
38. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 2 LH
39. TEMPORARY TIGHTEN STRUT ROD ASSY REAR
40. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSY LH
41. INSTALL SPEED SENSOR REAR LH
42. STABILIZE THE SUSPENSION
43. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 1 LH
44. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSY NO. 2 LH
45. FULLY TIGHTEN STRUT ROD ASSY REAR
46. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY, LH
47. REMOVE REAR DISC
48. INSPECT BEARING BACKLASH
a. Set a dial indicator near the center of the axle hub and check the backlash in the bearing shaft direction.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub assembly.
49. INSPECT AXLE HUB DEVIATION
a. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.07 mm (0.0027 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub assembly.
50. INSTALL REAR DISC
51. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY, LH
a. Install the brake caliper with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 58 Nm (592 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)
b. Install the flexible hose and speed sensor wire harness with the bolt.
Torque: 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.)
52. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
53. CHECK PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
54. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
55. INSPECT REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
56. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
