Under severe cold conditions (approximately 0� F / --18� C or below), some 2001 - 2003 model year Highlander vehicles equipped with side airbags may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1140 or B1141 stored in the Center Airbag ECU memory. To prevent a M.I.L. "ON" condition, the Center Airbag ECU has been updated.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
2001 - 2003
model year Highlander vehicles equipped with side airbags.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Refer to the appropriate repair manual procedure for diagnosis of the specific M.I.L. 'ON' DTC present. Confirm that the ambient temperature during the M.I.L. 'ON' was at or below 0� F (-18� C). If no trouble is found, after performing diagnosis for the M.I.L. 'ON', replace the Center Airbag Sensor Assembly (Airbag ECU) with the new part number provided above.
