Quarter Window Glass: Service and Repair
QUARTER WINDOW ASSEMBLY LHREPLACEMENT
HINT:
- Installation is in the reverse order of removal. But, the installation is indicated only when it has a point.
- In the RH side, work in the same procedure as in the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR SEAT ASSEMBLY LH
2. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
3. REMOVE REAR DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH
4. REMOVE TONNEAU COVER ASSEMBLY (W/ TONNEAU COVER)
5. REMOVE DECK BOARD SUB-ASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE DECK BOARD SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.3
7. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRAY
8. REMOVE DECK SIDE TRIM BOX LH
9. REMOVE REAR FLOOR FINISH PLATE
10. REMOVE LUGGAGE HOLD BELT STRIKER ASSEMBLY
11. REMOVE REAR COMBINATION LAMP SERVICE COVER LH
12. REMOVE DECK SIDE TRIM COVER LH
13. REMOVE DECK TRIM SIDE PANEL ASSEMBLY LH
14. REMOVE QUARTER PILLAR GARNISH LH
15. REMOVE ROOF SIDE RAIL GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
16. REMOVE ROOF SIDE GARNISH ASSEMBLY INNER LH
17. REMOVE QUARTER WINDOW ASSEMBLY LH
a. Using a knife, cut off the moulding as shown in the illustration.
NOTE: Do not damage the body with the knife.
b. Disconnect the connector.
c. Push a piano wire through between the body and glass from the interior.
d. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects.
HINT: Apply protective tape to the outer surface to keep tile surface from being scratched.
NOTE: When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint and interior exterior ornaments as shown in the illustration.
e. Cut the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around it.
f. Remove the glass.
NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the body as possible when cutting off the glass.
18. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW GLASS SPACER
a. Remove the damaged spacer.
b. Cut off the old adhesive around the spacer installation area.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body.
c. Clean the installation area.
d. Install a new quarter window glass spacer onto the glass.
19. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW ASSEMBLY LH
a. Clean and shape contact surface of body panel
1. Using a knife, cut away any rough areas on the body panel.
HINT: Leave as much of the adhesive on the body panel as possible.
2. Clean the cutting surface of the adhesive with a piece of shop rag saturated in cleaner.
HINT: Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the body panel.
b. Position glass
1. Place the glass in the correct position.
2. Check that all contacting parts of the glass rim are perfectly even.
3. Place reference marks between the glass and body panel.
4. Remove the glass.
c. Coat contact surface of body panel with Primer M
1. Using a brush, coat Primer M to the exposed part of body panel on the vehicle side.
NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not coat Primer M to the adhesive.
- Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.
d. Coat contact surface of glass with Primer G
1. Using a brush or sponge, coat the edge of the glass and the contact surface with Primer G.
2. When the primer is coated wrongly to the area other than the specified, wipe it off with a clean shop rag before the primer dries.
NOTE:
- Let the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more. Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.
e. Apply adhesive
1. Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle.
part No. 08550-00801 or equivalent
HINT: After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in the table.
2. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.
3. Coat the glass with adhesive, as shown in the illustration.
a: 8 mm (0.31 in.)
b: 6 mm (0.24 in.)
c: 5 mm (0.20 in.)
d: 2 mm (0.08 in.)
e: 4 mm (0.16 in.)
NOTE:
- Dry the primer coating dry for 3 minutes or more.
- Do not coat Primer M to the adhesive.
- Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.
f. Install glass
1. Position the glass so that the reference marks are lined up, and press in gently along the rim.
NOTE:
- Dry the primer coating for 3 minutes or more.
- Check that the stoppers are attached to the body correctly.
- Check the clearance between the body and glass.
2. Lightly press the glass front surface for close contact.
3. Using a scraper to remove any excess or protruding adhesive.
HINT:Confirm that the moulding is attached to the body panel as shown in the illustration.
NOTE:Take care not to drive the vehicle during the time described in the table.
20. WATER-LEAK CHECK AND REPAIREMENT
a. Conduct a leak test after the hardening time has elapsed.
b. Seal any leak with sealant.
